I had the opportunity to photograph a very intelligent and talented woman who is also an accomplished triathlete, career woman, mother and wife. Not only is she strong and fiercely competitive in her sport she is also strong within herself to allow me to photograph a very vulnerable stripped down side of her.She was such a good sport to model for me as I start my journey photographing female athletes in very creative, raw, vulnerable yet strong and emotive ways. Thanks K ! I think you might be on the cover of the book !
For those of you who have never heard of PLATON, check him out on his website at www.platonphoto.com. (but only AFTER you read my BLOG) :)
I travel often to Santa Fe, NM to attend workshops with well known and intriguing photographers.
It is an artistic new group of friends to create with and most of the time you leave the week with so much inspiration and new found friends that this high remains for weeks. I guess I can safely say I am addicted to Santa Fe. But my week with PLATON was extra special, maybe because he and I shared the same birthday :)
Plat is a wonderful person and the moment he started speaking about the class and himself, all egos (ok, most egos) went right out the door. It became a photography / therapy week..and it was truly great. A true and brilliant photographer must start with being honest with oneself and vulnerable in order to ask for the honesty and vulnerability of their subjects, all which is so important in a moving portrait.
It spawned my idea to work on my own "emotional self-portraits" and start a journey to be told thru images and poetry. Click on the button in the left hand column called "Surrender...A journey to my truth" if you'd like to view the beginning.
Plat was brilliant, the class was wonderful and the photography was beautiful and moving.
Here are just a few photos I worked on when I was there...the last one of my dog, Penny is my "emotional portrait" in practice as soon as I returned home.
Enjoy.

("wicked"..as Plat would say)

ok..so most of you know that I have been feverishly working on building a photography studio for the past 8 months and I am so happy to say it is finally completed. For me it was very personal journey and still is. It demanded a lot of my time, patience, creativity, emotional and physical energy as well as perseverance. It was as if I was building an amazing home, a very personal and open space to allow for great things, amazing creativity and wonderful art to be enjoyed by all. It is a very hip space and yet very comfortable, a space where truth and art can creatively collide.
Please come by to say hi and take a look at the studio. It is also available for rent to all photographers!
Here are a few images of the studio
I want to take a moment to thank the amazing people that helped me with the building of the studio. I could have not done it without their faith in me, their support and constant reassurance that what I was building was a truly special and amazing creative space. First a BIG THANK YOU to my mom & dad, for their devotion to their daughter and reassurance to follow my dreams, to my brothers Gary & Eric and their families, and to my friends who helped me design & physically build the studio - Dave Studds (the wonderful and talented builder) , Yael Gmach & Jimmy ( my studio neighbors who also do amazing custom framing), Jeanette Magdalen, Alejandro G, Keleigh Hall, Michael DiPietro, Chris Jones, Lisa Austin, Tracy Wright Corvo, Wendy Salin, and my favorite and most supportive client, Whitney Bellar. Thank you for all your kind help, support and long supportive phone conversations.
